The new indoor amusement park Bommelwereld was presented at IAAPA Expo Europe.
Opening in Groenlo, Netherlands in 2025, this new theme park is based on the beloved cartoon character Olivier B. Bommel and his comrade Tom Poes of cartoonist Marten Toonder.ย
Bommelwereld will be a large indoor theme park of approximately 9,000 square meters and is set in castle Bommelstein. The castle, which will be a new landmark for the region with a height of 23 meters, will accommodate over 20 attractions. Bommelwereld is a collaboration between Marveld Recreatie and Jora Vision with the firm aim to โpreserve and promote Toonder’s legacy (Bommelzolder Museum)โ
At a press conference, guests were treated to a special virtual fly-over of Bommelwereld. The tour provided a detailed look into the richly themed indoor decorations and attractions that await in Castle Bommelstein. Bommelwereld shared the design of the first theme park in honour of Olivier B. Bumble.ย
“Especially in the Netherlands, it is special for a theme park to be built from scratch. It is therefore extra fun to show how we went from the drawing board to a themed setting and to reveal the extraordinary line-up of attractions,โ adds Sjors van Roosmalen, Creative Director at Jora Vision. โThis exclusive preview is the perfect chance to experience Bumblebee World before anyone else does.โ
Meanwhile, Peter van der Schans, Executive Director and Vice President of IAAPA EMEA, said: โThe Netherlands is one of the countries with the very highest density of theme parks, amusement parks and festivals. It is rare for an entirely new amusement park to be built. We are therefore proud that they choose IAAPA Expo Europe to showcase their park for the first time.โ
The theme park is anticipated to welcome 100,000 visitors annually with the potential to become a major Dutch tourist destination.
A variety of ride manufacturers have worked on the rides and attractions to be showcased at Bommelwereld. Bulder Baan is a Vekoma Family Coaster with a 257-metre track, a height of 12.5m and a maximum speed of 45 km/h.
Razende Rommel will be a Mini flume created by ABC Rides. It will feature a Dark ride section with a 4-meters high, final splash. Daverend Draken Spektakel is a Zamperla mini jet ride at 4.2m high. Zwevende Zwam is the brainchild of Bertazzon who will construct one of their famed Swing Carousels. Its measurements are 5.8m stationary and 7.4m operational and 8 RPM.
Among many other rides and attractions at Bommelwereld will be a Harbour-themed area promising โmore thrilling ridesโ
