Universal Parks & Resorts have named Mark Woodbury in the new role. He replaces the long-serving, Tom Williams, who retires on 16 March after 32 years of service.

Mr. Williams worked in the tourism industry for over 50 years, transforming Universal Studios Florida into a leading destination and developing parks, hotels and entertainment complex worldwide.

His work led to the growth of the Universal umbrella with expansions in Osaka, Singapore and Beijing.

He leaves a legacy of growth in attendance, revenue and the creations of theme park rides and immersive lands such as The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

“Tom’s journey has been the journey of Parks itself,” said Brian Roberts, Chairman and CEO of Comcast Corporation, the parent company for NBC Universal and Universal Parks & Resorts. “His vision and leadership have made parks a vibrant business, defining modern theme park entertainment for us and the entire industry.”

Meanwhile, Mr. Woodbury has been with Universal for over 30 years. As vice-chairman, he has been responsible for Universal Parks & Resorts’ planning and design strategy worldwide, overseeing Universal Studios Beijing’s opening.

“Mark has essential insight into everything that makes Universal Parks & Resorts successful,” said Jeff Shell, Chief Executive Officer, of NBC Universal.

“Beyond his ability to create incredibly innovative guest experiences, he has tremendous experience with strategy, financials, stewardship of the Universal Parks brand. He has a key role in planning for the future of Universal Parks & Resorts.”
