Bellewaerde theme park in Belgium has received approval to develop a new €17m ($19m) indoor waterpark.

The opening of the Bellewaerde Aquapark is earmarked for spring 2019, with the 3,000sq.m facility featuring a range of waterslides and aquatic play elements.

A lazy river will take visitors through the entire park, while a play zone and kiddie pool is being developed for younger guests.

The Aquapark will also feature a wellness zone and outdoor area for warm summer days.

“Multiple market researches showed the potential to combine Bellewaerde with an indoor waterpark,” said Stefaan Lemey, general manager of the theme park.

“This confirms that our shareholder Compagnie Des Alpes believes in our site and strategy. The waterpark will have an overall positive impact on Bellewaerde, but also on the employment opportunities since minimum 10 extra people will be recruited.”
