New York State amusement park Darien Lake, soon to be part of the Six Flags family, opened its latest rollercoaster on June 2. Tantrum is Euro-Fighter model by the German manufacturer Gerstlauer.

“We are very excited to be opening this ride,” General Manager Chris Thorpe told local TV channel WSYR during the launch event. “It’s our first ride in 10 years that we’ve put in. What’s unique to this attraction is that it’s straight up, beyond vertical.”

Finished in orange and green and notable for its 98ft-tall (30m) lift and 97° first drop, the new attraction is quite an eye-catcher. In has a total track length of 1,246 feet (380m) and features additional elements including an Immelman, Diving Loop, Structure Slalom, Top Hat and Tilted Loop. It features three eight-passenger trains that reach atop speed is 51mph (85km/h).

“The ride really is a powerhouse,” says Adam Sandy of Ride Entertainment, which installed the coaster. “It takes a lot of people by surprise because of its size. Darien Lake park has a lot of big coasters, so Tantrum isn’t the largest ride there. But the vertical lift and beyond-vertical drop start the ride off with a scream-worthy rush and after that it is non-stop, back-to-back inversions that make for a fun, intense ride from the time you leave the chain until the magnetic brakes slow you.”
