The Muppets at Disney’s Hollywood Studios continue to grow despite the closure of Muppets Courtyard, with Disney confirming a second permanent Muppets-themed experience at the Florida park. The move follows the launch of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets and signals Disney’s commitment to retaining Jim Henson’s iconic characters as Hollywood Studios undergoes one of its largest expansions in years.
The latest addition will see a new Muppets-themed character location open near Sunset Boulevard, giving guests another way to interact with Kermit, Miss Piggy and the wider cast. The expansion comes as Disney continues construction of Monstropolis, the new Monsters, Inc.-inspired land that replaces the former Muppets Courtyard.
The announcement reinforces a strategy that balances new intellectual property with established favourites. Although MuppetVision 3D closed in 2025 to make way for Monstropolis, Disney opted to keep the franchise within the park by transforming Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster into a Muppets attraction rather than retiring the characters entirely. The coaster reopened in May 2026 with a new storyline centred on Dr. Teeth and The Electric Mayhem racing to their latest concert.
For operators, the decision demonstrates how existing brands can be repositioned during large-scale redevelopment projects. Rather than removing The Muppets from the guest experience, Disney has redistributed the intellectual property across the park while creating space for major expansion elsewhere.
Construction continues on Monstropolis, Disney’s first themed land based on Disney and Pixar’s Monsters, Inc. The area will feature Disney’s first suspended roller coaster, a major family attraction and a storyline built around ‘H.U.M.A.N. Day’, a celebration welcoming humans into the monster world after the events of the original film.
While Disney has not announced an opening date for Monstropolis, the combination of a new land, the reimagined coaster and an additional Muppets experience reflects the scale of investment currently reshaping Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The park is also preparing to debut The Magic of Disney Animation later this year as part of its broader transformation.
